Eastern State Penitentiary (Photography & Video)

On May 10, 2008, Angie, Helen (Angie’s older sister), and I took a day trip to Philadelphia to check out Eastern State Penitentiary.  It wasn’t my first visit to a prison.  As an EMT, I’ve had to go into jails and prisons on a few select occasions, but this place just blew me away.  It is a world unto itself once you are inside of the huge stone walls that surround you.  I took a total of 87 photos (all of which are on Flickr), though I probably should have taken more.  Sadly, much of the prison was off-limits due to its advanced state of decay, but this allowed me to take photos that document the decay of this age-old institution; abandoned then turned into a museum.
