My Vignetting Obsession

If you haven’t already read my previous post about vignetting photos, please check it out.  Editing and tweaking photos has been just as big a part of my photography as getting out and taking the photos.  I tune, tweak, and manipulate my photos either to achieve correct balance and contrast or to alter them to make them more old-skool in their appearance.

Lake George Action Park (Old-Skool Edit)

Take this photo for example.  By converting it to black and white then applying a vignette, I can change this photo such that it looks as if it were taken with an old Seagull 107 Medium Format Camera; a camera I proudly own, but cannot afford the time nor monetary expense it takes to shoot with it using 120 mm film.  It’s sad really, but it proves an important point that while pursuing photography, one doesn’t need a fancy, expensive, or complicated electronic camera to create very unique and moving images.  It just so happens that I have the latest camera releases at my disposal, but, there are times when I throw technology aside and intentionally take my images back in time.

Lake George Action Park

Just for shits and giggles, here is the original image (after conversion to black & white).

By the way, these photos were taken of the Lake George Action Park in Lake George, New York.  I’m not sure how long this building will still be in existence as it appears to have been abandoned for some time.  If you want to get your own pictures, this building stands on West Brook Road in Lake George, New York.
