American Writer, Photographer, and Website Designer. Former career Fire and EMS Lieutenant. She/Her/Lesbian.

Thomas Slatin (She/Her/Hers) was born and raised in New York City. She is the only child of Anne and Harvey Slatin. She started writing and taking photos at the age of eight. In 1996, Thomas designed and published her first personal website, and was established in July 1998. She has been employed as a freelance writer, photographer, and website designer in various capacities since age 18.

In July 1998, Thomas was certified as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT). Then, in 2001, she became a certified Firefighter. She served over two decades in the fire service, while also pursuing writing, photography, and website design part-time. Shortly after being promoted to the rank of Fire & EMS Lieutenant in 2016, Thomas left the Fire and EMS service to pursue a lifelong dream of being a self-employed writer and photographer.

In 2020, Thomas moved to her forever home in Vermont, and married Amelia Phoenix Desertsong the following year. She briefly returned to her firefighting roots, only to retire for good in 2021. Together, they travel around New England photographing the small town life and historical landmarks the region has to offer. They plan to travel as much of the United States as possible collecting photos and accounts of America’s mysteries and stories. One day, they hope to also travel the world in search of unique perspectives shared through writing and photography.

Thomas is a master photographer and published writer whose writing focuses on creative nonfiction about her unique life experiences. Meanwhile, her photography focuses on abandoned locations, urban exploration, and adventure photography. Her writing and photography has been featured in numerous media venues, books, and websites.

  1. Hi,

I would like to publish your “80 Journal Writing Prompts” piece on my tumblr.

I would actually just share the link to the original post on your webpage, which will hopefully give you more traffic as well.

Feel free to check my tumblr.

    Thanks for your time.

  2. • I do have an enormous number of stories to tell, however, due to the nature of the job, most stories must be kept confidential. I may now and again make an obscure reference to something that happened years ago in casual conversation, no specifics, but I am very cautious never to publish any such accounts.

  3. Tom…love the new site layout. Absolute homerun-large images, easy navigation. Great job as it is so much easier to find my way around.

    • Thank you, Danny! It took a considerable amount of time to switch things up a bit, but in the end, it was worth it. Glad you’re happy with the new and improved layout! 🙂

  4. I’m a costumer/historian making a YouTube video about a Schiaparelli dress worn by Yeffe Kimball Slatin, now in the archive of the Museum at FIT. I would like to include a brief biographical statement about her as a Native American artist and your father’s first wife. I would like to use some of your images that I found on Pinterest for this, as you can see on this Pinboard:

The video is intended for educational purposes and my channel is not monetized. I am not sponsored by any organization or educational institution in making this video, it’s a personal project. I would credit you in whatever manner you stipulate, and the video description would include a link to your website.

May I use these images for this purpose?

    Thank you for your time.

  5. Good evening,

I hope all is well. Your Geocoin, #302 recently ended up in my “Chateau Rendezvous Travel Bug Hotel and Spa” here in Emporia, VA. I retrieved it and will take it on along journey to Brazil. It will visit several different places but will eventually return to the States for a new drop off.

    Rest regards,

    Navigator 46

  6. Good evening.
I have read over your about page twice and it provides a lot of information to take in. Think about your passions. Thing about things that give you joy in life. Remind yourself why you do these things. Much like I did this morning after your comment on my About. In mentioning your past careers etc is great but I like to focus on the now. A brief blurb is good. I love the part about moving to Vermont and getting married. What an absolutely beautiful name your partner has. The only other thing would be to write it yourself.
I hope that I have not offended you in any way.
