Joe Martino on Education

Do we really need college and university degrees? Think about it. If we educated people more effectively and taught them more about themselves, wellness, basic life skills, their passions and how to think, could they not just learn what they love much faster? Have you ever noticed that when people get excited about something they learn it super fast? It’s not much about the learning here as it is about the time wasted and the repetition of infective learning styles that are, deep down, more about business and creating debt than anything else. For the most part it seems to more so build cogs in a machine. People who don’t question what’s happening but who will put their head down and work away. — Joe Martino

I totally agree with you, I know people with a lot of passion who are great doing what they do and they didnt even go to the university.

Thoughtful insight. Now that you can learn basically anything online, university and college seems less apparent. It definitely could be a lot cheaper, but I think it still holds some ground in the quality of teaching and the social experience.

I also agree. The sad thing in life is that education has become very commercialized. Work environments also look for individuals with “degrees” and not necessarily their skills. Education and practice must meet halfway.

I totally agree with Joe. Sometimes we spend so much time learning repetition. But after graduating you can barely remember half of what you spent years and years on class reading.

Hmmm, this is quite mind boggling . I somehow I agree with you, in that we do not need education to be successful in life, but we are in a society that having a degree makes a person seems intellectually sound and ready for a job.

I have to agree with that. What applies effectively before does not mean it is the only way to learn and get educated. I think that our education system must change.

It all comes down to love what you do and it will love you back. That is my number one criteria when I do something everyday.

I believe in working mostly on what I love to do and have passion for. Though I have love for education as well but I go for what works for me.

I think this will be my new favorite quote! I agree with him about why do we need a college/university degree. Success comes in different sizes and it all depends on you to bring that success to yourself. What’s the use of your degree if all you do is be lazy or not try at all?

Well stated, we only put our head down on what we loved to learn and not necessarily about what is thrown on us. I agree with you.
