Richard Bach

Richard Bach, born June 23, 1936, is an American writer, and also the author of my absolute favorite fiction novel, Illusions: The Adventures of a Reluctant Messiah.  Presented here, in no particular order, are my favorite Richard Bach quotes.

If you love someone, set them free. If they come back they’re yours; if they don’t they never were. Richard Bach

If your happiness depends on what somebody else does, I guess you do have a problem. – Richard Bach

Don’t be dismayed by good-byes. A farewell is necessary before you can meet again. And meeting again, after moments or lifetimes, is certain for those who are friends. – Richard Bach

Your only obligation in any lifetime is to be true to yourself. Being true to anyone else or anything else is not only impossible, but the mark of a fake messiah. – Richard Bach

Here is a test to find whether your mission on Earth is finished: If you’re alive, it isn’t. – Richard Bach

A professional writer is an amateur who didn’t quit. – Richard Bach

The simplest questions are the most profound. Where were you born? Where is your home? Where are you going? What are you doing? Think about these once in a while and watch your answers change. – Richard Bach

  1. If you love somebody, let them go, for if they return, they were always yours. And if they don’t, they never were.
    Khalil Gibran

  2. This man is smart I will give it that!!! Good quotes to live by. I do not agree with it to a degree but it works!!! Thanks for sharing!!!

  3. We usually used his quotes once, twice, thrice or more in our life. The quotes he have are applicable to or life situation. He is indeed a smart man in creating such life quotes.

  4. A professional writer is an amateur who never quite, not quiting makes him better. I love this so much, really opens my eyes alot

  5. The quotes are very well put. Like the one that says a writer is an amateur who did not quit, amazing quote.

  6. Such authenticity and profound insight. The mark of a true writer is someone who can invoke strong emotions like this. I love the goodbye message because to me that is the universe’s way of reminding you that important people will return in your life. Being true to your identity and asking yourself difficult questions is the best way to find nuance.

  7. I really liked the phrases, they make a lot of logical sense. I liked the phrase of happiness because love does not impose conditions to find happiness.

  8. “Your only obligation in any lifetime is to be true to yourself. Being true to anyone else or anything else is not only impossible, but the mark of a fake messiah.”

That’s something I have to remind myself of. In fact, I need to remind myself a LOT about it, because sometimes, I tend to please other people at my own personal cost. Perhaps a little selfishness to ensure I stay intact may be necessary.

  9. Amazing set of quotes from Richard Bach you have there. My favorite quote in particular is the second one which is “If your happiness depends on what somebody else does, I guess you do have a problem”. It speaks volumes on what I feel recently. Great post by the way!
