The Story Of My Life, And Other Ramblings

It is the story of my life.  All of my life I have spent searching for something that cannot be found.  Something I cannot name.  Something I’m not sure can ever be found, or even exists.  Something that if I found it, I might not even know if it was what I was searching for. All of my life I wanted to be a writer.  But writing doesn’t always pay the bills.  So I followed a career path in the medical field; a career for which I would always be needed.  And yet even though I was always part of a team in one capacity or another, I never felt…

    Lost In The Pages

Sometimes I feel as if I am lost in the pages of a book about my own life, filled with the jaded ramblings of a madman.  The world not as it seems as arcane symbolism seeks the truth of higher meaning. My written words are sometimes a nightmare to those who are not like me.  Those who are unamused by difference, unable to shift focus or perspective, seeing the world only as they are told or taught to see it.  Life is ours, we live it our way, and we write our own story as life goes on. The older I get, the more I realize how the world works,…

    How I Write

I have already written quotes about why I write, what inspires me to write as well as suggestions and prompts, and I have even given advice to aspiring writers everywhere.  This is how I write. When I started taking my writing seriously, as a possible career path, the year was 1998 and I was a high school senior.  I have always had an obsession with efficiency, that is, in simple terms, obtaining the desired result or effect with the least possible use of resources, time, or effort.  Ironically, while I make every effort possible to make things in my life as efficient as possible, as it relates to my writing,…

I Am An Early Morning Writer

For many years, I have added time and date information at the beginning of each of the entries in my writing notebook for the purposes of tracking when my best inspiration occurs. When we are prepared as writers, that is one thing, but it is quite another to track our progress and try to predict when the next magic moment of inspiration and motivation will occur. After studying the time of day for hundreds of writing pieces, a pattern has developed.  Statistically, I am most productive, inspired, and produce the best writing early in the morning hours, generally if I am writing before anyone else gets out of bed, leading…

    I Dreamed A Dream

I dreamed a dream about an abandoned school.  Here is an excerpt from my journal from March 5, 2014.  Please leave your interpretation of this dream in the comments and help me to figure out what the dream means, also known as dream interpretation. Last night I had a very strange and somewhat disturbing dream.  In the dream, I am exploring an abandoned school for disturbed children in Dix Hills, New York.  As is my usual activity during these explorations, I am also taking pictures with my Canon DSLR camera. All is going well as usual, though I feel as if this particular location may be inhabited by ghostly spirits,…

    The Curse Of Brevity

Therefore, since brevity is the soul of wit,And tediousness the limbs and outward flourishes,I will be brief. William Shakespeare, Hamlet Brevity is defined as the concise and exact use of words in writing or speech; in a sense, the way I have started to write in recent years. But why? I do not know. When I first started writing seriously, the year was 1998.  I was a senior in high school, and was going through a very difficult time in my life.  Things were so rough that I burned my notebooks from that year.  At the time, I found that I could easily fill an entire college ruled composition book…
