I Hold A Force I Can’t Contain

All my life, I have been indecisive, taking excessive consideration with each and every decision, no matter the breadth. And yet, long after the conclusion, I seem to allow my mind to become commandeered with thoughts of alternative scenarios and outcomes, if only I had chosen differently.

Thomas Slatin On How He Finds Inspiration

Thomas Slatin On How He Finds Inspiration

Ever since I started a blog, people have asked me where I find my inspiration. My main source of inspiration comes from real life experiences, which is why the vast majority of my writing is non-fiction. In 2011, I wrote a list of 80 Journal Writing Prompts, which was in response to the repetitive emails asking me for advice for inspiration. The journal writing prompts were posted in April of 2011, and quickly became the most visited post on my blog, and after going viral, received an average of 20,000 visits per day for several months thereafter. I knew I had stumbled upon an idea, if even...

Gifted

My parents sent me to private school, intending to provide me with a superior education. Midway through third grade, my parents decided to move, and I was forced to repeat third grade, a decision that delayed my graduation from high school by one year.

Neil Gaiman On Writing Tips

Write. Put one word after another. Find the right word, put it down. Finish what you’re writing. Whatever you have to do to finish it, finish it. Put it aside. Read it pretending you’ve never read it before. Show it to friends whose opinion you respect and who like the kind of thing that this is. Remember: when people tell you something’s wrong or doesn’t work for them, they are almost always right. When they tell you exactly what they think is wrong and how to fix it, they are almost always wrong. Fix it. Remember that, sooner or later, before it ever reaches perfection,...

For those of you who aren't aware, Tracey is a gifted writer and blogger who claims to have an unhealthy obsession with zombies. Her book, Nowhere To Hide, went on sale on Amazon.com in October of 2014. She also has a fantastic blog, No Page Left Blank.

Yearbook

Recently, a handful of my friends have decided to post scans of their high school yearbook pages on Facebook. And while I have since misplaced the yearbook from the year I graduated high school, conveniently, or otherwise, the concept of posting ones yearbook online has inspired various thoughts and ideas.

Ridiclous Humanities Writing Assignments

If I had a dollar for every one of the ridiculous humanities writing assignments I was given while in college, I'd be fabulously wealthy. Here is a small sampling of the many humanities writing assignments I remember being given while in college. If I had my way, I would have written essays filled with snappy answers to the assignments to mock their ridiculousness.

My Writing Manifesto

I will write factual, complete, and detailed accounts of the human experience, or my life events. I will do so without permission, and doing so for nothing more than to chase my passion, and regardless of the opinion of others. Above all else, no time and no words shall I waste. Colophon Cover image was a public domain photograph, taken circa 1910, courtesy of The Library Of Congress. This post was inspired by The Writer’s Manifesto: Stop Writing to Be Read & Adored, written by Jeff Goins. Asides How To Spread Your Ideas: Write A Manifesto

The Story Of My Life, And Other Ramblings

It is the story of my life. All of my life I have spent searching for something that cannot be found. Something I cannot name. Something I'm not sure can ever be found, or even exists. Something that if I found it, I might not even know if it was what I was searching for.

Lost In The Pages

Sometimes I feel as if I am lost in the pages of a book about my own life, filled with the jaded ramblings of a madman. The world not as it seems as arcane symbolism seeks the truth of higher meaning.
