Press 3 For More Options, And Other Random Thoughts

Ode to the random thoughts notebook; what it taught me about life, writing, and everything in between. When I was in my 20’s, my best friend at the time and I had what we referred to as our Random Thoughts Notebook. It worked like this.  Similar in concept to The Circle tape recording sketches as part of That 70’s Show, my friend and I would have a few drinks, and then write down whatever came to our minds.  Often times, it would be useless drivel, other times, something funny would be written down, and on a handful of occasions, there would be come useful ideas and concepts jotted down. My Writing Manifesto

I will write factual, complete, and detailed accounts of the human experience, or my life events.  I will do so without permission, and doing so for nothing more than to chase my passion, and regardless of the opinion of others.  Above all else, no time and no words shall I waste. 6th Grade, And Other Mishaps

Sixth grade started like any other year of public school, except for the fact that my teacher had received word that I was a, “gifted student”, and therefore, expected more of me than most of the other students in my grade.  Public school was a breeze, and getting good grades never required any sort of work whatsoever, so I was anticipating 6th grade to be a breeze.  From day 1, it was a nightmare. My first day in 6th grade, the teacher decided to assign seating arrangements based on geographical locations.  I had always experienced great difficulty with maps, and geospacial information in general, which is why I use electronic versions…

    The Contents Of My Head

What is one thing nobody knows about you because nobody ever cared to ask? There is so much going on within the confines of my own mind.  All through the day, empty thoughts fill my ears, at night, dreams and visions of things and situations never to become reality play before my eyes.  Often times there is a fire storm of thoughts like a freight train running through my head, other times, a lonely and uncomfortable silence takes over.  The thoughts linger; empty ones for a brief period of time, while those which are important and meaningful seemingly fleeting. There are so many things nobody knows about me, because nobody…

Old-School Advice That Still Remains Relevant

Daily, men and women do a score of things that they know to be hurtful and insane, because they fear to be accounted “peculiar,” and “not quite respectable;” and so it comes about that “the keeping up of appearances,” as it is called, the incessant striving to be popular at all costs, engenders endless hypocrisies and falsehoods, and makes knaves and cowards.– The Blight of Respectability [Geoffrey Mortimer, 1897] It is a common failing to expect another person to keep a secret which we have just proved is beyond our own capability.– The Spinster Book [Myrtle Reed, 1901] We should subdue our gloomy moods before we enter society.  To look…
